Project Abstract

A conventional differential that is non-locked differential always supplies close to equal torque to each side. With an automotive differential if one wheel is held stationary, the counterpart wheel turns at twice its normal speed. A differential locking system introduced here can be engaged or disengaged either manually or automatically, as per the conditions or a sensor based system can be developed that will sense the difference in speed or stalling of one wheel to lock the differential by sliding movement of the pneumatic cylinder piston to get engaged in a planetary gear. So the differential unit is working. So both wheels are at different speed for turning. If the same speed attain by the wheels the differential unit is disengaged.


WORKING PRINCIPLE:

          When the D.C Motor is run, the bevel gear arrangement also rotates due to motor coupled to gear. One of the bevel gear is used to run the drive shaft. The sun and planetary gears are does not rotate till the speed of two wheels are same. If the speed is different the pneumatic cylinder is activated by using the controller and valve arrangement. Then the planetary gears are engaged. The sensor is used to sense the two wheel speeds, whenever the speed changes, the sensor give the signal to the controller. The controller is used to engage or disengage the planetary gears.
