Project Abstract

PPTP: PRIVACY-PRESERVING TRAFFIC PADDING IN WEB-BASED APPLICATIONS

 

ABSTRACT

Web-based applications are gaining popularity as they require less client-side resources, and are easier to deliver and maintain. On the other hand, Web applications also pose new security and privacy challenges. Many high profile Web applications might cause sensitive user inputs to be leaked from encrypted traffic due to side-channel attacks. Existing solutions, such as random padding and packet-size rounding, failing  to guarantee sufficient privacy protection. We then formulate PPTP problems under different application scenarios and design effective algorithms.

 EXISTING CONCEPT:-

In our Existing system revealed that many high profiles Web applications might cause sensitive user inputs to be leaked from encrypted traffic due to side-channel attacks.

Random padding and packet-size rounding were shown to incur prohibitive overhead.

 PROPOSED CONCEPT:-

We present a formal PPTP model encompassing the privacy requirements, padding costs, and padding methods

 

We design several heuristic algorithms for solving the PPTP problems in polynomial time with acceptable overhead.

EXISTING TECHNIQUE:-

Privacy-preserving traffic padding (PPTP).

Privacy-preserving data publishing (PPDP).

PROPOSED ALGORITHM:-      

Single Vector Single Dimension

Simple Algorithm.

Single Vector Multi Dimension Greedy Algorithm.

TECHNIQUE DEFINITION:-

The packets corresponding to each input string can be identified from observed traffic, even though the traffic has been encrypted.

The main goal of PPDP is to prevent such linking attacks while still allowing the released data to be useful.

ALGORITHM  DEFINITION:-

SVSD algorithm attempt to reduce padding cost of packets

 

SCMD Greedy limits the optimizing process insides a subset of possible solutions. And selecting minimal padding cost among set of solutions.

DRAWBACKS:-

Side channel attack(PPTP problem).

Padding packets will result in additional communication and processing overhead.

Padding cost is high, for sending packets over network.

 

ADVANTAGES:-

Solved PPTP problems.

The difference in packet sizes needs to be sufficiently reduced to prevent eavesdroppers from distinguishing between different users inputs based on corresponding packet sizes.

 Minimizing padding cost under a given privacy requirement.
